2022 is right around the corner – and we couldn’t be more excited! With the pandemic affecting our daily lives for nearly 2 years now, 2022 offers hope for a fresh start and happy times!
Making New Year’s resolutions is a great way to take the bull-frog by its horns and set your family up for a fun-tastic 2022! New Year’s resolutions are often made to make up for an indulgent Christmas and are usually forgotten once February rolls around! So to help you and your kids set more do-able goals, we’ve pulled together a resolution to-do list to get your 2022 off swimmingly.
Be a smarty (Square)Pants with your resolutions
The reason so many New Year’s resolutions get abandoned in the first few months of the year is because we make broad goals, such as ‘get fitter’, with no clear guidance on how to get there. Instead, take some time to chat with your kids to figure out what you and they want to achieve next year, then set a series of small actionable goals to help you get there.
For example, perhaps you and the kids decide that in 2022 you want to spend more time getting outdoors; create a list of small actionable points you can tick off such as, go on one family walk per month, each kid takes up one outdoor school club per term, or you all agree to walk to school on days when the weather is good.
By breaking your goals down into smaller, more manageable tasks it is far easier to hit your targets and keep yourselves on track for a longer period of time. Don’t forget though, every family is different, so everyone’s resolutions will be different as well!
Make your resolutions sparkle!
You’re far more likely to stick to your goals if you can see them regularly; so find a spot, such as the fridge, grab your kids, art supplies and get creative! This is a great way to get your kids engaged and feeling involved with their goals for the new year as well.
Before you get started it’s worth thinking what the best way to display your resolutions would be. Does each person in your family have a different set of resolutions that would be best displayed in a table? Are you all working to the same goal and need a list? Have you made monthly goals and need a calendar? Find what works best for you then cover it in glitter and crayon and get it somewhere visible! We’ve created a couple of templates for you to get you started; check them out here.
Go with the flow
If 2020/1 taught us anything, it’s that we never know what is coming around the corner. This year we have all needed to be kinder to ourselves and say that sometimes things don’t go to plan and that’s ok! Let’s take this thinking with us into 2022.
Setting New Year’s resolutions is a great way to set you up for the year, but don’t be disheartened if situations crop up and you miss a target or have to adapt the goals you initially set out. Find something that seems more achievable or relevant to your new situation and re-adjust your thinking to work towards that instead.
We hope that this has given you some ideas for how to get yourself and your kids ready for 2022.
And don’t forget, if one of your goals is to keep your kids healthy in the new year, make sure you check out all of the SpongeBob SquarePants Kids Vitamins , available exclusively at Holland & Barrett.
